What to look for in a nursing home or hostel

 

At this level of care, assistance with daily living is provided: reminders about medication, help with showering and dressing, assistance with walking, etc.

So the relationship of the staff to the resident is all-important

So is the environment. Look for somewhere your parent can feel comfortable and at home, yet have discreet assistance with all the things that have become too hard to do alone.

  • Good staff-resident ratio 
  • Good meals and dining-room 
  • Sufficient living space and storage for personal items

  • Sufficient privacy and lack of noise
  • Handicapped access 
  • Guest accommodation
